Jon gasped after the flash cleared.
"Mom! Where did you get that?! Wait..have you been going through my stuff?" Jon said, the wish temporarily forgotten in that sense of territorial violation only a teenager can achieve.
His mother didn't answer, she simply remained frozen with a look of shock on her face.
"What? What is it? Oh, no..." Jon said, suddenly remembering what his mother had just wished. He quickly sprinted towards the bathroom to examine himself in the mirror, his mother following close behind.
He gasped again, this time in relief, when he saw himself in the bathroom mirror. His hair had darkened slightly from light brown to the same dark brown shade as his mother's hair, and judging from his clothing he had lost an inch or two of height, but it wasn't terribly noticeable.
"Wow. That was a close call. You had me really worried there, Mom."
"What..what just happened?" His mother asked, bewildered.
"The stone grandpa gave me, it's, well it's magic."
"Magic? But that's..that's...well, I suppose that would explain what just happened to you, but this is all so strange..."
"I know it sounds crazy, but it will grant you any wishes you make holding the stone, as long as you say "I wish". But wishes can't be reversed, and everyone who didn't hear them will remember the changes as if they'd always been that way. So you can see why I was worried." Jon explained.
"Yes, I can certainly see that..." His mother said distantly.
Jon simply stood in the bathroom door awkwardly for a bit, working up the courage to ask the inevitable.
"So, can I have it back?"
"Well..."
