Fortunately for Jon, his mother had not actually spoken a wish, and the stone, not being telepathic, remained inert. His mother was interested in the strange shape and coloring of the stone, however, and wondered why Jon's grandfather would have left him such a thing. So she placed it securely in her pocket and waited for him to get back from the mall so she could ask him about it.
About an hour and a half later, the door opened and Jon stepped into the living room to find his mother waiting for him.
"Hello sweety. Have fun at the mall?" She asked him. She slipped her hand on the stone preparing to remove it from her pocket and confront Jon about it when she was interrupted.
"Uh, yeah, sure. Listen, I just came back to tell you I'd be heading over to Karyn's house." Jon replied.
"Karyn's house? So soon?" The smile fell from her face. "It seems like we never spend any quality time together anymore."
"I know mom, but I've just been kind of..distracted lately. Anyway, I'm gonna go." Jon began heading towards the door.
"Now just a minute young man. I know we may not have very much in common, but I'm your mother and I'm talking to you! But that doesn't seem to mean much to you. Sometimes I wish you would be more like me!" She exclaimed in exasperation.
Jon turned, and was blinded by a flash that was all too familiar.
