Jon as Bethany wondered why his wish hadn't been met. 'Of course, dummy. You have to be holding the rock when you wish.'
Knowing that he couldn't just rush over to where his back pack was with the rock, he tried to answer the reporters questions without giving away too much. He down played his role and played up the roles of everyone else.
Once the reporter had asked her questions of Jon/Bethany, she turned to Mrs. Rose. Meanwhile Jon hurried, without appearing to hurry to his back pack and pulled out the rock.
Just as he got it in his hand, he heard, "Look out below."
Rather than moving, Jon looked up and saw something big falling toward him.
He tried to jump out of the way, but had waited too long. The object struck Jon, knocking him down and then pinning him under it.
