Jon's mother hung up the phone and her mind flashed back to when she was a teenager. Karyn reminded her of herself at that age. With the events of the past few days fresh in her mind, revisiting a simpler time seemed like such a wonderful thing. Of course she'd forgotten all the worry about fitting in, and school, and other teenage problems. Now, it seemed like the most perfect time of her life.
"I wish I could be a teenager again without all these adult problems... and bills!!" she said.
The rock warmed in her hand and she dropped it. "OW! Dumb Ol rock! Sheesh!" she said as the phone rang again. Her wedding ring fell to the floor.
"Hello?" she answered. ..... "I won?.... No? Really? C'mon? Ohmigawd! Like, Ohmigawd! Like, wow! Like.... Awesome!!!! COOOOOL! COOOOOOOOOL!!!"
She hung up the phone, jumped up and down, danced in a circle, and screamed in joy. She'd just won a contest paying off all her bills and leaving her plenty of extra money. She was rich!
She tugged on her skirt and her shoes slipped off while she danced and clapped. She didn't care! How great it felt to be a 16yr old kid and just find out that she was going to be rich she thought!
When Jon returned home he saw a pretty 16 year old girl sitting sideways in a large chair in the family room, her bare legs hanging over the arm of the chair, hair in a pony-tail, feet bouncing in time to a video on MTV!
Jon surveyed the girl. Could it be?
She cracked her gum and stared back at him.
Finally he stammered "Mom?"
"Well... like... YEAH... Who'd you expect?" she replied in her now higher voice.
"Oh....my.... whoa...." he said... "Were you like..maybe going thru my room and found a ummmmm rock?"
She smiled "Yeah... and it's, like, my good luck charm! Right after I found it I, like, won, like, that dumb ol magazine contest thingy! I'm rich!!!!!"
"But you're a kid????" he asked.
"I'm sixteen!" she told him as if she was insulted and didn't understand what the problem was.
"Did you make a wish?" he then asked although he felt he knew the answer.
"I dunno... no... wellllll... maybe... kinda. I guess" she answered sheepishly. "You're not going to, like, tell me this rock grants wishes are ya?"
"Uhh yeah" he said.
"Right! As If!" she snapped "You're just jealous 'cause I'm like a millionaire or something now!"
"No, that's not it. I'm worried 'cuz you made yourself younger and don't even realize you did it! You gotta wish back to normal or something! I can't have a 16 year old mom!" he told her.
"You must think I'm really dumb.... You can't wish to be younger and it just, like, happen.... Here. I'll prove it!" She giggled at the thought of how silly this all was "I wish I was....."
"Noooooo" Jon screamed but he couldn't stop her.
