"I hope you're right," said Karyn. "You're sure you want to be named Shawn?"
"Don't worry," replied Shawn. "It's pretty close to 'Jon' depending on what accent you have. But you see, I think my normal self is pretty good. Oh, there may be a few things I want to change, but I did wish that this is reversible, so I can change them later. So I made my life like my old life. I have the same hobbies I did as a boy and I don't have a lot of dresses. When my friends would invite me to their house as a boy to watch a football game, they'd still do it to me now, and it'll still be because they're my friends, not because they want to be alone with a girl."
"So does that make you a lesbian?"
"Well, I was dating a girl named Mia a few months back. My life is like my old life, so I was a girl dating a girl. I suppose people could assume I'm bisexual and still hit on me."
"I can't think of anything better," said Karyn, "but you still have problems. For one thing they can't treat you exactly like a guy. If they treated you exactly as a guy they'd think you aren't supposed to have breasts since a real guy isn't."
"I am a real guy, Karyn!"
"You know what I meant."
"Okay, Karyn, they aren't treating me exactly as a guy or exactly like they did before, just very close. So I'm a girl who knows football statistics, and dates girls, and doesn't wear makeup, and nobody thinks I'm weird for it. What problems could possibly come from that?"
