"I'm immune to magic. Your magic, anyway. There's no way you can do anything bad to me. Go ahead, try it and see."
"I wish..." Karyn couldn't hurt her. "I wish you'd become a kind-hearted and good person!"
"You can't... ohh.... what did I do? Karyn? I just killed him...."
"Jane, are you okay?"
Jane was crying a bit and Karyn gave her a hug.
"It's okay now. I didn't think making you a kind-hearted and good person is bad, so the wish worked... but... it's strange, you acting like that to begin with. I mean, I've been friends with you since we were kids. If something like that was in character for you, I wouldn't have been friends with you in the first place. I certainly wouldn't have been in your house as a guest."
"I'm not sure why," said Jane. "Suddenly I'm a murderer. 'Let's keep casually chatting as my dead brother from another timeline rots in the hallway'... do people really talk like that?"
"No, you're not a murderer," said Karyn. "We have wishing stones. Or anyway, you have yours and I have his. There's got to be a way to bring him back... I know. I wish that, umm... you have a twin brother Jon, who died in an avalanche a few minutes ago, but this Jon is alive and everyone else thinks he's the other one. I wish that the dead Jon's body is buried a mile under the ground, without changing reality. Now I wish Jon here knows what's going on...."
Jon was already awake and alive, having been brought back by Karyn's first wish.
"Karyn!" he said. "I was dead, I think."
"What did you feel?" asked Karyn, handing Jon's stone back to him.
"I felt like I was floating into a tunnel... But that isn't the real problem."
"What do you mean?" asked Jane.
"Karyn, Jane... Karyn wished I know what's going on. Well, I know what's going on... but not just how to fit in this timeline as Jon. I also know why Jane acted like that. It was because...."
