. . . Jon's mom noticed something was wrong.

"Jon, what happened to your hair?" she asked him.

"Mom, did you do any snooping in my room?" She blushed. "Mom, you didn't take my rock, did you?"

"I admit I took your rock, and I apologize for looking around your room, but I was just worried about you after Grandpa's death, that's all. But what does the rock have to do with your hair, Jon?"

Jon and Karyn proceeded to explain about the rock, and Jon showed her the letter. His mom looked at it, puzzled.

"It says 'changes made will be as if it has always been so, apart from for those within earshot of the wish,'" she said, reading from the letter, "but you two recognized something was different. Not that I'm complaining; you might have saved us a lot of trouble by stopping me, I'm curious as to how you saw what was different."

Jon was puzzled too, but then Karyn spoke up. "I think that we might have been outside of the range, so we realized what had happened."

Jon shook his head. "No, because then the wish wouldn't have worked, right? I don't know, maybe Grandpa made some wish after he wrote the letter that changed that. It's not important. Anyhow, we need to think of some loophole to get me back to normal."

"Jon, it's really not a big deal, I'd just forget it if I were you. It's too risky to make a wish to fix something so minor," stated Karyn. Jon disagreed.

"Look, I liked how I looked before. It shouldn't be too hard to fix. What did you wish for, Mom?"

She tried to think back. "Well, I was just getting off the phone, and I was holding the rock in my hand, like this." She frowned slightly. "I think I said something along the lines of . . ."
