Jane wasn't sure how to take that comment. Before she could say anything more the phone rang.
Jane went to answer the phone. CJ noticed how late it was getting so she put her books away and began to get ready for bed.
The call was from Jane's mother. "Hi Mom. What is up?"
"I thought I would come over for a visit this weekend. Do you and Jon have anything planned?"
That question shot through Jane. 'Why doesn't Mom think that Jon is CJ? Everyone else but Karyn, CJ, and I think that Jon is, and always has been, CJ.'
"Jane? You there?"
"I was just thinking Mom. C, ah, Jon will be out Friday night, but I'll be here."
"Good, then we can have some mother-daughter time. I do love my grandson, but at times I have trouble related to a teenage boy. Do you know what I mean?"
'Do I ever!' Jane thought as she told her mother "Yes."
A couple of minutes later, Jane told her mother goodnight and goodbye.
CJ, who had finished dressing for bed came to tell her mother goodnight.
"Your grandma called and said she is coming for a visit next weekend." Jane told her daughter.
"Cool. I love it when grandma comes. She takes me shopping and lets me buy cuter clothes than you do." CJ said. "Night Mom."
Jane could only look at the retreating form of her daughter.
'What is going on? Jon would freak if his grandmother saw him dressed as a girl? Why didn't Mom think that Jon was CJ?' Jane spent a sleepless night trying to figure out what was happening.
Come morning, CJ was acting even more like a happy preteen girl and Jane was trying to drink enough coffee to wake up for work.
'What am I going to do?' Jane wondered as she watched CJ all but skip off to school.
