"Fine, I'll just take something of yours, then!" Athena spun around, crazed, looking for anything she could use to cover herself so she could leave. Karyn had chosen to put her into a bikini, but she could choose whatever item in the closet was most appealing to her, and she landed upon a unicorn tutu. The leotard was pink, with a large image of a unicorn running across a rainbow across the chest. The skirt was big and poofy and nearly stuck out straight.
But in the split-second that Athena had, this is the outfit that stuck out from the morass. The tutu demanded more closet space, so it represented a break in the monotony of cottons and rayons and silks, and it was this break that subconsciously caught Athena's eye. Once she had grabbed it, she had felt regret, but it was something to cover herself with, and surely she wouldn't find anything better in this closet. Any time spent looking for something else was time not spent leaving.
So she quickly pulled the one-piece outfit on over the bikini Karyn had put her in, and hurried out of the closet.
"Sweetie, what are you doing in Karyn's room?" An older voice called from the hallway.
Athena froze. The door opened wider, revealing Susan McMillan.
"You're going to be late for ballet practice! I'm glad you're dressed, but you shouldn't be wasting time in your sister's room."
Her sister's room!?
Before Athena had a chance to react Susan had already grabbed her wrist, and with a force she wasn't expecting, managed to pull her into the hallway, down the stairs, into the garage, and into the back seat of a shiny, black Jeep Grand Cherokee. Before she knew it, she was buckled in, the car was backing up, and the screen on the seatback in front of her was playing some children's TV show.
But this wasn't any show Athena had ever heard of. And was that Miss Fine standing among the background characters? Athena was having trouble focusing.
