If it had been Jon, he probably would have wished to know if that was really his grandfather, but it was his mother, and she just handed the stone over. Fortunately it was his grandfather, who set about reversing the wishes.

"I wish I knew how all the wishes made since I sent the stone to my family, were worded."

"Can you do it, Grandpa?" asked Jon.

"Of course. It's a snap. First, I wish me, Zoe, Jon, and Karyn were in a private place where we could talk without being overheard."

They disappeared and reappeared in the middle of Karyn's room.

"So," continued Grandpa, "Zoe said 'I you-know-what that everyone in this area would become a Goth.' She didn't say how big an area. The stone picked one for her, but I can reinterpret it. I wish that the area Zoe referred to in that wish means only the area Zoe was standing in personally, so that nobody else is affected" There was instantly light coming through the window--of course the secondary wish wishing that everyone would become like "us" just kept the whole world unaffected. Karyn was wearing her normal clothes.

"I feel... like I was before," said Karyn. "But I still remember being a Goth, even if I don't feel so Goth-like."

Grandpa replied "That's because you were here to hear the wish. Now to get rid of the rest. I wish that everyone not in this room who knows about the stone forgets about it. Now, I wish that Jon was part of this timeline and could be affected by wishes normally, and that everyone who should remember him remembers him. You weren't quite right, Zoe. You thought you couldn't have made Jon a Goth, but you could. You made him like black shirts, you could have made him like all kinds of Goth things."

"Now one other thing," he continued. "I wish I knew why the stone was able to affect the whole world even though it has a range. Oh, hmm. Congratulations, you got lucky. Part of the stone's power was in an ancient Incan temple that got destroyed by an earthquake two weeks ago. All that power moved into the stone, so the range limit is almost a million miles now. At least nobody's going to be destroying the sun with it."

"Why did you make Mom forget?" asked Zoe.

"Because I gave the stone to Jon, not to her, and as your mother she couldn't help but try to control how Jon uses the stone. And by the way, I didn't give it to you either, Zoe." He handed the stone to Jon. "Jon, it's yours now. But if you want my advice, I suggest that if Zoe wants something and it's not completely ridiculous, you let her have it."

Zoe grumbled. "Fine. Jon, it's yours."

Grandfather smiled and disappeared, as if he had teleported.

"But one thing, Jon--Grandpa wanted you to give me my wishes if I ask you, right?"

"Sure, Zoe," he said.

"Well, I would like a lot of things now. I don't have the stone, so I can't keep wishing when I need things, I have to get them now."

"You don't have to get them now, you know, you can ask me later."

"But I'd like to have them now," replied Zoe.

"Fine. What things would you like?"
