While talking to each other, discussing what Zoe's mom had just done, a black car drove up the driveway and a man stepped out.
Jon recognized him immediately. "Grandpa?"
"Hello, Jon."
"You know who I am?"
"Yes. I used the stone to make it possible for me to know changes that have occured when a wish is granted." He looked around at the neighborhood and the sky. "But, my, my, my. What have you done?"
"It wasn't me. It was my mom, I mean Zoe's mom."
"Yes, of course."
"Wait a minute, aren't you dead?" Jon asked.
"I only wanted people to think that I was dead. It would have been easier than telling them the truth."
"What truth?"
"That I used that stone there to become immortal." He looked at himself. "Ha. I guess becoming immortal doesn't mean that you become younger." He looked at them again. "Try explaining why I would still be alive fifty years from now when you kids are grandparents."
"Okay, but what are you doing here?"
"Isn't it obvious? I came here to use that stone to fix things. I guess I was wrong when I sent it to Zoe, but since Jon didn't exist, Zoe was the only person that I could even remotely trust."
"Dad, you didn't even trust me?" Zoe's mom asked.
"The point is, I chose your family. I could have given it to a friend instead. Now, give me the stone."
"What makes you think that you can fix everything?" Jon asked.
"Because I've used it more than any of you have. I've got the experience. Now, give it to me. Let me wish us out of this nightmare."
