Jon tried to break free from Karyn's grasp, and succeeded. He pushed Karyn back and lurched at the stone. He scooped it off the ground before Zoe could get to it.
"I wish Karyn would remember who I am." The stone glowed and then realization appeared on Karyn's face.
"Oh, Jon. I ... I'm so sorry. I forgot that it was you."
"It's okay now, Karyn."
"Not really. I mean, I know that you are my best friend. But ..."
"But what?"
"You're so different than everyone else. What most people would call a freak."
"I'm the freak?"
"She's right, Jon," said Zoe. "The only way to change that is if I turned you into a Goth, too."
"Don't you dare, Zoe."
"I don't think I could, even if I wanted to. I already wished that you would be like you are right now. If I say that you're a different way ..."
"... then it would be a contradicting wish," Jon finished.
"Right."
"Then, what do we do?" asked Zelda.
"First, I think we should go inside the house. Mainly just to get Jon off the street. Then we can figure something out."
