When Jon got home he almost tripped over the shoes in the entryway. Four pairs of shoes, to be exact. They were exactly like the one's he'd seen Sarah wearing that day. Well, almost. They were all black leather ballet flats, with some flashy buckle on the toe area. But they were all different sizes.
Great Jon thought, Yet another change. When he got to the living room, he realized why the shoes had been tossed haphazardly in the doorway. There on the floor were several boxes of new shoes, and his whole family was gathered around showing off their new acquisitions.
"I love these," his dad said as he slipped on a pair of red peep-toe pumps and strutted around the room with ease. The rest of the family looked on with admiration, then down at their own feet which were adorned with identical shoes. They all stopped when they saw Jon.
"What do you want?" his mom asked.
"Nothing," Jon said. "What is it with shoes, anyway?" he said under his breath, but Zoe heard.
"You just wouldn't understand," she said. Everyone else nodded in agreement. That was when Jon noticed something else different. Their hair seemed different... lighter. And on his dad and brother it looked almost longer. And since when did everybody have blue eyes?
Are their bodies changing too? Jon wondered. Why did I just notice? Sarah must be changing the rules as she goes. Typical.
Jon knew there was only one way to fix things. But he just didn't want to get the stone back anymore.
