Zoe and Athena were generally used to having the library to themselves after school ended. There weren't too many students who wanted more school once school was over. And accordingly, the library was mostly quiet as they closed the door to Mr. Giles's office behind them.
Mostly quiet.
One student had left a research project to the last minute, and found herself rushing into an empty library just a moment after Zoe and Athena had vacated it. Tiffany Sanders was more accustomed to using the bookshelves of the library as a place to hide make-out sessions with boys than for actual book use purposes, but today was an exception.
"Where is the Napoleon Bonaparte section?" she huffed in frustration as her eyes darted from shelf to shelf. "I'll just have to check every one of them."
And the blonde cheerleader did just that, dashing up and down the aisles until something caught her eye.
An amulet. A glowing amulet. Sitting alone on a table surrounded by stacks of books. Someone had drawn some weird symbols on the notebook it was sitting on, but the amulet itself was beautiful. How was it glowing?
Thoughts of 19th century European conquests left Tiffany's mind for a moment, as her attention was entirely consumed by the exquisite piece of jewelry before her, and she couldn't help but pick it up for a closer look.
The intricate details and the purple jewel at the center mesmerized Tiffany as she held it, as though speaking directly into her soul. She could feel a deep part of her connecting to the amulet.
And then the feeling was gone, and she shook her head. Tiffany was certain that Waterloo was more than just a song from the soundtrack of "Mama Mia: Here We Go Again," but she needed to know why.
She replaced the amulet exactly where she had found it, still with a faint glow. But as she finally found the section of shelf she'd been looking for, Tiffany failed to notice that the jewel at the center of the amulet had turned to pink.
