"Karyn, why do I have the closet of a woman in her twenties that loves to party?" his voice was strained.
Karyn laughed. "You don't remember Abigail Parris and that's the closet you open up to! That's priceless. Oh, I'm so glad I got to listen to that on the phone while you found out your fate this morning."
Jon closed his eyes. "Karyn, please. Just give me the basic details."
Karyn was still delighted. "Look, there's not enough time to go through everything this morning before school. But the whole town is cursed every October, and if you don't wear what shows up in your closet each day, you'll get penalized. And you definitely don't want to start getting penalties on the first day of the month. I'm guessing there's accessories and makeup on your dresser, too?"
"Yup." Jon stared. "What do I do with those?"
"Those are part of your clothes for the day. Skip out of them and you get penalized."
"Who? Who is penalizing me?"
"Abigail Parris. Or at least, her curse is. She's dead now. Probably? It was a hundred years ago."
"Karyn, I can't wear a cocktail dress and heels to school!"
"Jon," Karyn's voice was flat. "Everyone in town will be wearing clothes that aren't theirs today. This month sucks but also is what makes our town a good place to live. Just put it on and you'll be fine."
"Karyn, these can't possibly fit me!"
Karyn was exasperated now. "Everything in your closet was resized to fit you. It doesn't matter who or where it came from, it will fit. I don't have time for this. Just get dressed like all the rest of us have to, and I'll see you at school." She hung up.
Jon took a deep breath and slowly let it out. What in hell had he done?
His mom knocked on his door. "Jon, are you up? You need to get ready for school, and I'm guessing it'll take you longer than normal today!"
"Just... trying to decide, Mom," he stammered.
"Do you need help?" Without waiting, she opened the door and came in. Jon stared. His mother, who usually dressed professionally in a blouse and skirt for her office job, was wearing hospital scrubs and sneakers, a scrub cap covering her hair. His mother noticed, and smiled. "It's actually pretty comfy! I might have to get a set for myself when the month is over. What do you have today?" She glanced into his closet. "Oh, Jon, those are lovely! Look at that burgundy one! Jon, you have to wear this one today, it would go wonderfully with your eyes." She smiled and pulled it off the hanger, handing it to him. "I'll leave you to it. Hurry down to breakfast once your makeup is done, you do not want to miss your father in his Southern belle attire before he heads off for work!" She closed the door behind her as she left.
Jon sighed. I can't believe this. He stripped down and looked in his underwear drawer. There, as he now guessed it would be, were piles of lacy women's underwear, panties and thongs galore, as well as a number of different bras, all seemingly sized to hold the nothing he had on his chest. He held one nude-toned bra up gingerly, screamed internally, and slowly strapped himself in up top, eventually getting the back to catch and stay up. He pulled up a matching set of panties, and stared at himself in the mirror. Just your average six-foot tall teenage boy wearing women's underwear. Well, it's about to get worse.
He slid into the burgundy dress. It clung to him perfectly on every angle, fully hugging his frame, with a v-neck set up to show off cleavage if he had any. As he zipped it up the back, he felt air brush his leg, and looked down, seeing a slit that went all the way up beyond mid-thigh. I'm going to give everyone a show if I'm not careful. He found a pair of 4-inch heels that looked like they might match and put them on, testing himself as he tried to walk around. Despite everything he heard people say about heels, they weren't bad. It's just kind of like walking tiptoe. Kind of.
He was ready to leave the room and face breakfast, then remembered everything on top of his dresser. He sighed again. The jewelry selection included earrings, necklaces, bracelets... everything. Jon had no idea what to pick, so just picked gold options as best he could. A thick gold bracelet, and a long necklace that dangled down into his chest. He looked over the earrings. All of them looked real. He glanced at himself in the mirror, and froze. His ears were pierced. He'd definitely never had that before. Jon carefully took one set of the gold hoops and carefully, slowly lifted it to his ear, watching it slide in without a problem. Just how interesting did that wish make everything?
The makeup was a challenge. He could guess at mascara, and lipstick was obvious. The foundation for the rest of his face... well, that he just tried to rub on evenly and hoped it would be good enough.
Finally, Jon took one last look at himself in the mirror. He was unquestionably him, just suddenly presenting very, very femininely. And he looked... surprisingly okay.
His phone was still blowing up with texts. Everyone from school seemingly sharing selfies of themselves. Some looked normal. Some simply crossdressed. A few looked like they were six-year-olds dressed for career day. Someone was wearing a suit of armor, of all things. Everyone was smiling, and the rest of the comments were all supportive and cheering them on, every single time.
You get what you wish for, I guess. With that, Jon left his room to head downstairs.
