"Maybe," Lia said. "I have a much better idea though. How about we," she whispered into his ear. Jay turned beet red in surprise. Lia grabbed his hand and urged him toward the basement.
Lia pulled a set of keys out, and used it to unlock one of the doors on the basement hallway, and pulled him into a room, then locked the door behind him. It was an old classroom, full of old equipment and broken desks and chairs. But one corner had been cleaned up, and there was some equipment set up.
"What is this place?" Jay asked.
"Old classroom, obviously," Lia said. "Kyla didn't tell you she was working on something down here, did she?"
"No...I mean, she always tells me about her projects."
"Not this one," Lia said. "Have a look." He went over to do so, but didn't notice Lia behind him, grabbing his arm and handcuffing him to a nearby pipe.
"Sorry, Jay. I'm afraid I can't let you interfere," Lia said. "And if you are missing too, then Karyn and Jon will focus their attention elsewhere."
"What are you doing? This makes no sense..."
"It does, you just don't have all the facts to realize it," Lia commented. She walked up to the equipment, and pulled out a set of syringes and vials. She seemed to do some calculation and grabbed some of the vials before filling a syringe. "How much do you think Sarah McMillan weighs?" She mused as she injected him. Then she slid over an old chair. "You might want to sit down before you lose consciousness. You'll be out a while." She went back to the vials and started working. "You can scream if you want, but no one will hear you. Also...it's such a cliche," she said.
Jay chose to believe her.
