Karyn was able to pull her attention away from Sarah and her new hair in time for class to start, with a significant assist from Monica, who made a point of sitting between Karyn and Jon. She still didn't trust him yet. But that only managed to last a few minutes into the class period, when the teacher called on Sarah McMillan to answer a question, and the cheerleader's voice rang out confidently:
"I'm your girlfriend."
That's not what Sarah had actually said, to be clear. But that's what Karyn heard, as the unique wavelengths that made up Sarah's voice hit Karyn's ears and penetrated deeply, completely, through her brain so that it struck right at the point at the core of Karyn's consciousness that the very same voice had invaded and re-molded the previous day after a blowjob and a lunch period's worth of saccharine words.
Karyn found herself sitting bolt upright in her chair, a strange feeling filling her belly.

When the teacher finally let Karyn off the hook, she then turned once again to Sarah.

Tunnel vision. Sarah was the only thing in the world that existed, the only thing in the world that mattered. Karyn's mind literally blocked out everything else in the classroom.
Until she felt an urgent tap on her shoulder, and the spell was broken once again. Karyn turned to see both Monica and Jon staring at her with concerned expressions on their faces. They couldn't say anything during class, but the silent communication was enough: "are you okay?"
Karyn closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She nodded her head. But internally, she was a whirlwind of thoughts, a hurricane of conversation circulating around and around one single thought: "do I have a crush on Sarah?"
The feeling in Karyn's belly grew deeper and thicker.
