Karyn didn't know exactly how to answer that morning when she told her mom she leaving to meet Jon, and her mom replied "Oh, so you two patched things up?" She, of course, wasn't in her body when Biff was piloting it and didn't want to go to school with Jon.
But she waved off the question, mumbling something indistinct before closing the door behind her too quickly for a follow-up. And it wasn't soon before she found her friend right where she expected to see him.
"Jon!" Karyn's grin broke wider than it usually did. "You did it! I'm back to normal!"
Jon, for his part, breathed a sigh of relief. He'd been assuming that his wish had worked, but until just this moment he hadn't wanted to take anything for granted.
Jon let his friend wrap him in a hug, a bit firmer of a hug than he was used to getting from Karyn, and the two walked on to school almost as though everything was normal.
Almost.
It was as they were approaching the school building that Jon noticed Karyn was no longer looking at him, but past him. Over his shoulder. He turned to see if there was something behind him, but he couldn't make out anything unusual.
"What?" Karyn asked as Jon's head turned back.
"You were looking at something," Jon replied. "Was there something behind me?"
For the second time that morning, Karyn waved off the question, mumbling something indistinct before shifting topics. But it wasn't until Jon had pointed it out that Karyn realized she'd been staring. And the person she had been staring at, way down on the other side of the walkway, almost hidden among other students but nonetheless drawing Karyn's attention like a beacon, was Sarah McMillan.
