"Uh ... can I help you?" Scarlet asked.
"How much for the outfit in the window?" Mrs. Finch asked.
Scarlet looked over and saw the outfit that she had on display, but that couldn't be what the woman was talking about.
"Which outfit are you referring to?"
"The one on display, obviously," Mrs. Finch said, getting a little irritated by Scarlet's ignorance.
"Okay," she said. "Is that a present for someone or ..."
"It's for me. I think I would look very nice in it." She paused, noting Scarlet's odd look. "What? Am I too old to shop here or something?"
"No. No, that's not it."
"Well, then. How much for the outfit?"
Scarlet told her the price.
"I think that sounds fair. I'll take it."
"You're serious?"
"Young lady, please don't waste any more of my time. Just get the outfit from the display and I'll put it on straight away."
"You ... you're going to wear it out of the store?"
"You know, you are a very taxing person. Exactly what do I need to do to make you give me what I want?"
"Fine, I'll get it for you." On her way over to the display, she wondered if this woman was right in the head. Given her appearance, she certainly didn't seem like the type that would wear a fishnet shirt, black leather under-bust corset, black leather miniskirt, fishnet stockings, and black leather knee-high buckled boots with four-inch stacks. It was something a Goth girl would wear, not this prim and proper lady. Something strange was definitely going on, but what could it be?
She brought the outfit back to the checkout counter and the woman paid for it. Then the woman discretely took off her clothes behind one of the shelves in the store and put on the new outfit.
Mrs. Finch looked down at herself, marveling how well she looked in her new outfit, not even realizing how out-of-place she looked. Or how indecent she looked, especially with her short miniskirt and under-bust corset (which pushed up her sagging breasts, but didn't cover them up ... the only thing covering her breasts was the fishnet shirt).
Then she left the store, leaving Scarlet mystified.
