Dawn Duncan frowned. She and Jon were friendly, but they weren't friends per se. Maybe she'd better talk to Zoe. Something about this worried her.
She headed toward her next class, and spotting Zoe in the hall, going in the opposite direction, she stopped her. "Zoe...is there something wrong with Jon? He seems pretty jumpy today."
Zoe looked at her. "Did he say something?"
"No, he was just acting weird. Like he was hiding something, then like he wasn't paying attention in class...then...he ran off when I asked if he was all right."
"Well," Zoe tried to think of an excuse. She was a much better liar than Jon. "His...grandfather died over break. He's just having a hard time."
Dawn nodded. "I'm sorry...I didn't know," she said. "I...should just let him be, I guess..."
"For a few days, I guess. Thanks for being worried."
"Well, tell me if I can do anything to help, okay?"
Zoe paused, thoughtfully. "Have you ever woken up one day and wondered...is this really my life? I mean...wondered if you are supposed to be someone else?"
Dawn frowned. "No..." she said, confused. "Are YOU all right?" she asked.
"No, I'm fine. Just thinking about...stuff."
"Is that about you and Jon? I mean...you two are..."
"We're what?" Zoe asked.
"You know...inseparable. If he's having a hard time, it could have an effect on you as he's such a big part of your life," Dawn said. "I mean, think about it..."
