"Can you explain to me why men are so shallow? Everyone knows that McMillan is a total bitch and yet, because she has blond hair and big tits, every guy in the school spends half his life dribbling down her cleavage."
"Not every guy," Jon noted.
"Okay, most guys. There's only one of her; why can't she just pick one and let the rest of us have a go?" Karyn sighed.
Her best friend grinned. "Got your eye on anyone in particular?"
Karyn didn't like when Jon tried to tease her...mostly because that was her job in the relationship. "No. Just a general feeling. God, I wish I had long blond hair and big boobs and maybe then I'd get some of the attention." She immediately froze, realizing what she had just done, and a millisecond later, she felt something under her sweater.
She looked down, pulled at her bra and lifted a lock of yellow hair to take a look at it. "Fuck."
"Indeed. This is why I wanted to lock this thing away. This sort of thing was bound to happen."
"Could have been worse. I could have wished..." A look of horror appeared on her face as she realized she'd almost did it again, but worse. "Never mind. Here, take this thing back before I mess up some more."
"We could make some more wishes to try damage limitation. You were pretty vague."
"No. At least not yet. Let me go home and sleep on it - on my back - and decide what's best. I don't think now is the time to be rash. Meet me here again tomorrow," she called back as she headed around the corner.
Little did Karyn know that things were not quite over yet. As she turned the corner, she found herself face to face for the first time with Sarah. Karyn knew that Sarah knew who she was as they had been in the same school now for a while, but had barely paid attention to her, not being in the same social circles.
Sarah looked at her angrily. "I heard what you said," she said.
Karyn cursed inwardly, knowing what that meant. "And you waited here to tell me? I mean, don't you have better things to do?"
"And you don't than wearing that obviously fake wig?" Sarah said. She reached over and tried to tug at Karyn's hair, discovering it was in fact..real. "Do you know why, even if you looked more like me, you still wouldn't get any of the attention?"
Karyn shrugged. "Because I don't put out?"
Sarah made an angry noise at that. Not that she hadn't fooled around a bit, but she wasn't a slut. "Because boys aren't interested in a girl who dresses like she shops in a church donation bin. And acts more like one of them than a girl...which is probably why every boy you like probably doesn't even see you as a girl."
