Emily looked down at her..Stacy seemed to be growing, the distance from her chin to the girl's head shrinking. She turned and stumbled over to where Mikey was sitting. "Help me..." she said.. "She's..."
Mikey stood up, and he too was growing....or so she thought before she realized something. She was shrinking. Emily watched as she went from being able to see the top of his head to looking straight into his eyes, to looking up at him. "She's what?" he asked, looking concerned.
"She's shrinking me..." Emily said. "Please...help me..."
"People don't shrink," Mikey said. "Is this some kind of game?" he asked.
Emily felt a twinge of pain at her temples again... "I'm scared," she said.
Mikey wrapped his arms around her comfortingly. That did feel good, pressed against Mikey's chest, especially with whatever Stacy was doing to her. She started to zone out until she heard a strange voice say, "Are you all right, sweetie?"
Emily looked up. Mikey was still holding her...but not Mikey...The face she looked up at was a grownup, not a kid.
"Stacy," Linda said firmly. "I said it was time to go...say goodbye to the Gibsons. You can come back another time."
Emily turned. She was still taller than Stacy, but shorter than everyone else in the room.
"Goodbye Emmy...goodbye Mrs. Gibson," she said to the grownup who was standing where Mikey was.
"Come back any time," Mikey said, in a sweet voice. Standing next to Linda, who now looked to be ten or fifteen years younger.
Emily grabbed Stacy's arm. "Please," she whispered.
Stacy shot her a cold look before taking Linda's hand.
Emily looked at Mikey, who seemed oblivious to what had happened.
