Yapping about being layers would put targets on their backs. Not only from the other gangs, but other members of Old Kipler's gang might pounce on the information. He was not an idiot. There were people in the organization that wanted to take his spot at the top. Old Kipler did not live this long without being both clever and ruthless. The position they had in the criminal underground of the city was unquestioned. If there was going to be a problem, it was going to come from a betrayal. That meant he had to keep on top of things. Fuyuta, Haruto, Natsumi, and Akira were the only ones that wanted to join the gang directly. Willow had no biological tie to Old Kipler. Naomi did not want him going off and participating in gang violence. He could get hurt. I really doubted it, but Willow also did not want to be part of the gang. That was totally fine with me. I had 7 children. Willow was the 8th blessing in the house for us. None of my children needed to be in the gang if they did not want to. All they had to do was be there when I needed them to act. I wanted the 8 to be useful for me and my goals.
Zipping mouths shut could be needed in the future. Maybe I would need some protection. Whatever happened, I wanted them to remember that they needed to help their family. There was no reason to have so many children in the game otherwise. Evan and his friend were keen on going off to college. They wanted to be entertainers. That was a very interesting dream. Benny and Kenny wanted to be doctors. Doctors would be very useful for the gang members. They needed professionals that could patch them up. Zooming through the rest of school, they were able to get scholarships to a local college in the city. That was great of us. Spending 8 times the tuition costs was pricy. All of them got full rides. Fuyuta, Haruto, Natsumi, and Akira all declined. They already had good paying jobs. Old Kipler would take care of them at the start of their criminal careers. Kenny, Benny and their friend Maxwell would all take pre-med as their undergrad major. In the meantime, they joined the school soccer team. Willow went for theater. Evan and Quincy also went to the arts department. It's a no-brainer.
As a university known for its STEM programs, their arts department was a bit weak compared to other schools. They wanted to stick together. I could respect that desire to be close after living together for so long. Both Quincy and Evan would be studying for a degree in production. All 10 of them liked using the gym on campus. It was very clean and had all sorts of equipment to keep you fit and ready for anything. I went with them a couple of times to try it out. I was not much of a gym rat, but they were really great. They drew a massive crowd. My hatchling children were getting a ton of eyes on them in particular. They all had natural purple hair. It was hard not to notice them when they entered the room. I wanted to let them shine. The others got jealous. Willow got self-conscious and scurried to the locker room to change back into regular clothes. I also would be a bit nervous showing off my body when all the others were showing what they were made of. Men and women alike were drawn to them. I simply pat Willow on the back and said "There is nothing to be ashamed of."
