Jon had a semi normal Madison family dinner. He was distracted, looking for anything that might have changed. But everything seemed normal. His mother, Linda, worked as an administrative assistant at a local law firm, Fiennes and Burke. Despite not being a lawyer, she was considered invaluable to Gary Fiennes. After her husband had passed, the firm had been very supportive with a flexible schedule that allowed her to be there for her kids when needed.
That hadn't particularly helped her relationship with her middle child, 14 year old Zoe. Zoe had gotten progressively angrier in the time since her father had passed, and while it necessarily the reason why she'd become a goth, it was certainly part of why she was always at odds with Linda.
And finally, there was the baby of the family, Mikey. Mikey was 10, in his last year of elementary school before moving on to middle school. Mikey wasn't the best student, and often needed help with his homework, and was popular in his group of friends at school, all male, being as he hadn't gotten past thinking girls had cooties.
Jon was almost relaxed when everything all evening seemed to go as expected. He fell asleep, convinced he'd dodged a bullet.
At least he had, until the morning.
