Jon had waited over two hours before he really started to worry. No call from Karyn. No ring on the doorbell. Jon knew that Karyn's house was closer to his than Sarah's, so if Karyn had left the cheerleaders, then she'd have to turn back to normal, right?
Unless she hadn’t gone home? What if she was still other Karyn?
Jon took out his phone to send Karyn a text, but their chat history was gone. Her name wasn’t in his contacts. For all intents and purposes, she wasn’t his friend. Or at least she wasn’t, in that moment.
Jon had thought a lot about what wishes he could make, but he didn’t want to make them without Karyn present, without having her on board with his plan. But this was different, this wasn’t going to be a wish to fix Karyn, this was going to be a wish to get Karyn to a place where she’d want to be fixed.
“I wish,” said Jon, “that I was physically closer to Karyn than Sarah is right now.”
