Karyn found herself subtly teasing Jon as they walked down the hall to their next class. Nothing too terrible, but right as he started talking about the stone she would bend her body just-so to force his gaze down her cleavage, or she’d find a reason to bend over and give him an up-close view of her behind, or she’d flash some skin, or flash a smile. And each time it stopped Jon in his tracks in a way that made Karyn feel a lot better about herself than she’d ever expected to feel from this kind of behavior.
“Karyn!” Jon finally burst. “We need to be planning how we’re going to fix this. Or at least how we’re going to keep you away from Sarah. Maybe we’ll just wish that she moved to another city, that way I’ll always be clos–” his speech was interrupted once again as Karyn bounced on her heels and sent her flesh jiggling. “Stop that!”
“I’m sorry.” Karyn’s face turned sincere. “I guess I never knew what it was like to be pretty, and now I kind of want to experience more of it.”
“Karyn, you’ve always been pretty.” Jon looked around, and saw that other eyes were starting to take notice of Karyn.
“Then why didn’t you ever tell me before?”
Jon blushed. “I guess I just didn’t think it was important to you, until you asked me.”
Karyn took a breath. “I guess that’s fair. I don’t think I knew it was important to me until I heard Sarah’s friends call me pretty.”
There was a moment of silence between them.
“So,” Jon started again, “we can figure something out with the stone once we get back to my house. But until then, how are you avoiding Sarah?”
Karyn shrugged. “We’re in all of our classes together. I’ll just make sure I stick very close to you, all day. We’ll be careful. Hold each others hands as much as possible.”
“People are going to think that we’re dating.”
“So?” Karyn gave Jon a grin. “That just means we’re going to have to make it look like we’re dating.”
Then she kissed him, right on the lips, and he had no further objections.
