DTH-Jon and Karyn reappeared from
Of course to them it didn't look like much had changed. If they'd been looking through a window and paying attention, they might have noticed a glitch in the sun and their own shadows moving very slightly as they moved forward in time a little.
"Are we back?" DTH Karyn asked in a whisper as she looked around the hall.
"Yes nearly five seconds ago." DTH-Jon told her speaking normally.
"You could have said." she told him speaking in her normal voice.
The bedroom door opened and Karyn stuck her head out.
"Are you guys going or what?" she asked.
"We've already been, so we know about telling you to lie on the floor and all that stuff." DTH-Jon told her.
"Do you think I'd make a good actor?" she asked.
"No not really."
"Jon!" DTH-Karyn shouted. "You really have been getting a lot ruder since you got your brain rewired. She did a great job, she had us both fooled."
"I suppose" he said. "Anyway back to business. I've got the universe her Jon went to."
"What happened there that's different from here?" the other Karyn asked.
"No idea. It just appears on screen as a long string of characters."
"That's not a lot of help, if we're going to go there." DTH-Karyn told him.
"Yes, local intelligence would be useful."
"Can't you use that big brain of yours to work it out."
DTH-Jon tapped a few buttons.
"I can trace back the origin point. The non-sequitur diverged from the main timeline recently, within the last twenty years." he told them.
"I thought it was thousands or millions of years ago?" DTH-Karyn asked.
"Generally, not always. I'm getting a more accurate reading. According to this it happend just under 7000 days ago."
"That's kind of specific. Maybe it's something to do with the Millenium. That would be about then." DTH-Karyn speculated.
Jon did some quick mental arithmetic.
"No it's after that. Not long after it though."
"Maybe it was a special event or something."
"I don't know. Whatever it was, happened before I was born. About nine months before."
"I guess it was around the time, you were conceived." DTH-Karyn said
Jon had a shocking realisation.
"That can't possibly be a coincidence. I think the non-sequitur Jon went to was a world where I... never... existed..." DTH-Jon told them dramatically.
Both Karyn's looked at him sceptically.
"Don't be such a drama queen." DTH-Karyn told him.
"This is serious"
"No it's not. So what if you didn't exist? I'm sure there are lots of dimensions like that. It's more likely one where you've got blonde hair or something."
"Well I hardly think something as simple as a change in hair colour would justify the creation of a whole new universe."
"Who knows, we've no idea who makes up the rules. Even if you don't exist, you'll still get to see how you've made an impact on the world."
"I guess so but still the thought is freaking me out a bit."
"Well we better get going."
"We need to go outside."
"There's no point in running away. You have to face this."
"I'm not running away. If we hop to that universe now, I'll be a stranger in my own home. You too probably." Jon told her as he started heading down the stairs.
"I guess you better stay here." DTH-Karyn told the other Karyn.
"Yeah it will be weird if someone see both of us." Karyn said.
Both DTH-Jon and DTH-Karyn made it into the street without running into any of Jon's family members. They hid behind a large tree just outside Jon's house.
"We should be safe here. If anything bad happens we can make a run for it." DTH-Jon told DTH-Karyn
"I won't be able to run very fast." she told him indicating her enhanced chest.
"We'll cross that bridge when we come to it."
He held her hand and pressed a button on the DTH.
