Mikey's realized suddenly that his father had the ability to grant his knowledge, experience, and habits to his children instantly as he wills it. And already began plotting how he could make his dad want him to know how to drive or work any of the jobs he'd had... as the power is used, the targeted child will become slightly more adventurous.
In taking a moment to admire his dad gaining a superpower not just having something happen It also came to him that his last wish gave him the ability to start linked wish chains, not just start a linked wish, so now a woman named Allison may get the outgoing kids she'd hoped for if his dad makes another wish.
A really strange thought crossed Mikey's mind... Jon knows he doesn't have the stone on him, so his guard is down... and having the stone has made him prone to thinking of desires as wishes and even saying them out loud... So because his guard is down he will likely be voicing wishes freely to hone his wish smithing ability... so if he were to start linked wishes off of Jon, it might be pretty quick that he and his friend Karyn make things happen!
This could be fun... Let's start this off right and really crank up the heat... "I wish Jon and his friend who knew about the stone, were somewhere private discussing how to make wishes, and that everyone who cared where they were thought they were working on a project and would leave them alone." Immediately after transporting them Mikey targeted Jon as a receiver of a linked wish expecting things to get interesting before the end of an hour...
Jon and Karyn believed they had planned this opportunity to discuss wishing protocol. it had been difficult to get some privacy but they remembered getting approval from their teachers and even reserving a small room in the library usually reserved for small project groups and relaxed reading time.
First things first, "Just to make sure we are safe and don't just think we are safe, I recommend we do the following." Jon then stood up and held out his hand, "I wish the stone was in my hand. Now you."
Karen did the same and complemented Jon on his foresight. Mikey's ability finished after Jon had said the "I wish" part making it not count.
"So we have a number of things to discuss and some of it may be nullified based on decisions, but I think its worth going over since we could have major issues when feeling impulsive and holding the stone. First, since we can't directly undo stuff, we should always use a kill command to stop the wish like 'I wish that until I say burnt ochre I will...'" And then he gestured continuation while Karyn nodded.
"Next, lets pretend you and I wanted to go to a concert, or a club, or a college party, or something... and it was 21 and older only, and only beautiful people were let in. I couldn't just wish to be 21, I'd be left outside waiting for you to get tired..." Jon smiled as Karyn blushed. "The stone isn't looking for ways to warp our wishes, but it doesn't read minds either. Specificity is key so, I'd say something like... I wish I was a handsome, muscular, 21 year old who had graduated a year early with a 4 year degree in construction, for example, and had a general enjoyment of beer and most alcohols but really liked whisky and tonight I have 3k in large bills. As part of the wish, I have trimmed stubble, a perfect white smile and am very charming."
"Gee, haven't given that one any thought have you?" Karyn asked with a sly and knowing smirk...
Jon laughed... "Maybe... but as we wouldn't want it to be permanent I would make it with my original birth year or something, we might want to use like three uncommon words as a standard password like restless serendipity ochre, and then that's always used to revert temporary wishes."
"No, because what if we have multiple temporary wishes going... saying the password would cancel one wish in trying to set up another." Karyn contradicted
"Good catch, we will have to table that Idea and continue to workshop it. I want you to get some practice given this opportunity for privacy, but since you are so against me being young and handsome, make a moderately bad version of me who's older, say 36. But don't be too mean, my ego couldn't handle it." Jon gave a smile.
Karen thought seriously for a moment, "Okay, I wish that until you say 8642 you will become a 36 year old divorced, father of 2, who pays half his substantial paycheck in child support and alimony, and frequents bars with the money left over from his paycheck. You are a pack a day smoker, occasional gambler, indulge in 3-4 cigars monthly, get stoned daily after visiting the bar, and you are developing a noticeable beer belly from your drinking and heavy snacking while stoned, which will steadily grow unless you change your ways. You are addicted to a pot of strong black coffee each morning and will have a splitting migraine by noon if you don't have coffee or to a lesser degree if you don't get enough. Despite only being 36 you look like you are in your early to mid 40's because of your many years working outside as a construction foreman and your drinking and smoking habits. Finally, you are still noticeably muscular and have a distorted and faded tattoo from when you were 18. You bulked up after you got it and now you're beginning to get fat and its suffering the consequences. This life and lifestyle all seem normal to you though you recognize something is off but can't place what. You still remember everything from your current life, people still remember you, and you think transforming into this version of yourself is a natural growth spurt as do people other than me. Saying 8642 will revert you to your natural form and mentality."
Each of them suddenly had to blink and turn away but both equated it to actual dust since they knew the rock was stashed away for safety.
Karyn begins, "I could have been meaner but you asked me.... Jon... how are you growing a beard?"
Mikey receives a notification of how the spell was fulfilled and Karyn notices Jon changing drastically, and clutching his head.
Which traits are in the final version of the wish that executes? (I know there are explicit instructions but this is a creative writing site and I'm sure someone will think something different would be better.) Both is father and brother are still the carriers of the linked wish because once someone had the linked wish, there is a compulsion to state any wish that crosses your mind.
