"Can you elaborate for me? What exactly has happened?" Zoe asked, a slight smile on her face. I scowled even more; she was clearly enjoying my misfortunate and discomfort.
"Stop enjoying this, m... Zoe" I said, surprised that I nearly said 'mom'. It just kind of came out instinctively.
"Why not? I've got to find some enjoyment out of this whole mess" Zoe smirked. If she wasn't thirty, dressed like a secretary and looking... alive, I would had thought she was back to normal. Least she had rediscovered her sense of snark, but i wished it wasn't at my expense.
"Do you realize, mom, how embarrassing it for me to say that my underwear is now pastel colored push up bras and panties?" I snapped, stomping my foot ill-tempered, then cringing at the clacking sound that my shoe made. I hated my new uniform, and mary janes, and worse, I hated that it was starting to feel more comfortable, like it was meant to wear it. "Some mom you're turning out to be."
Zoe frowned. "Joanna. Please don't compare me to the bitch. I know you're upset, but just admit, I'm a better mother than her."
"Yeah?"" I challenged.
"Have I made any wishes on you? Turned you into my sweet little daughter so I can regain my youth? No, I have not" Zoe said.
"Which I've always said..." I started, but Zoe cut me off.
"Or maybe you'd be more suited in my old clothes. You're starting to get the snark, Anna. Make you a goth..."
"Knock it off, mom. This is serious, and I don't have time for your fantasies" I snapped.
"Very well. The reason you've got such delightful underwear is because you're becoming a girly, popular teenage girl, Anna. One that is .. um.. more developed than most, and is not shy about showing her body. You're certainly more curvy than what I was, and i'd expect my old corset would not fit you. Even though it serves the same purpose as your bras. The difference is that Linda hated my corsets and my attempts to look curvier and bustier than I really was. Me on the other hand has no problem with you doing the same. You might not want it now, but as your 'Annafication' progresses, and your interest in boys awakens even further, you're going to want to wear such clothes, as well as the more revealing ones you had worn from the mall yesterday afternoon" Zoe said in a business like tone. "Face it, Anna, you're a girl now, and my daughter. What kind of mother-daughter pairing we're going to be depends on you."
I was stunned by her blunt, almost clinical, delivery. It didn't escape me that she used 'Linda' which she never does unless completely serious, or that beneath her gothy exterior, she was just as vain as some pinked out princess. Plus it seemed she had given up on turning us back. I didn't feel like talking anymore. "I.. I have to get ready, mom" I stammered.
Zoe looked at her watch, something she didn't have the previous day. "Too late, Anna. Your friends should be arriving about now. Guess you took too much time pouting"
"What?" I said, surprised as the doorbell rang. What was going on? School didn't start for at least another ninety minutes, and Karyn never was this early. Did m.. Zoe know something about Karyn's transformation that I didn't. I stumbled downstairs, and opened the door. To my surprise, it wasn't Karyn. Instead Paige and Katie were waiting.
