Lifting the trophy in the sky was the captain. He honestly deserved it despite anything else Anna might say about him. While he did lose his big first rubber in the singles competition, he stepped up and won the tie-breaker. The king might have wanted Reilly to do it, but he stepped up and it paid off in the end. Everyone else got a chance to hold it. The alphas passed it among each other. The retired pro then handed it hesitantly off to Ronan. Anna and the rest of the Iduts stood up and clapped. Ronan had not expected it. The alphas were pretty cold to them all. He took his time to lift it high and bask in the applause of the crowd. Ronan passed it to Reid. He looked like he could cry. Reid then gave it to Reilly. Reilly looked right at Anna. Anna rushed over to him. He gave it to Rhys before Anna pulled him into a kiss. She wrapped her arms around him and they made out. Molly came over to stand with her husband too. He kissed Molly as well. Reilly was the true MVP of the team today. That was when Reilly gave it to Evan. Evan looked right as his father as he lifted the Cup higher.
His father walked over and smiled at him. Alpha supremacist as he was, he loved his child and was beaming with pride. So was Kevin. Kevin and Charles both went to their children as the trophy was returned to the stand. They got to speak to them. Eventually, a journalist approached to get interviews with the winning team. The captain did all the talking. The matter of the king's involvement came up. It was a very bold question, but this journalist was from a neutral country. "The king simply wanted us to choose who was the best for what we needed to do. Reilly and I were those members." he said diplomatically. That was all he would say on the matter. "This team has more omegas than alphas on the team. What challenges did you have managing them?" she asked. "The were self driven and did not need hand holding. I trusted them to bring their best." he answered. Honestly, he simply did not care about them enough to reach out about anything. "Knowing they were crucial for your success, what do you say to other omegas looking to get in new sporting careers." was next.
Smile straining, he said "Oh, I think our teammates are just exceptional people. Everyone knows they were national high school champions before becoming omegas. It's possible, but so rare. I wouldn't want to get their hope up and set them on a path of disappointment." That was a fair point. Anna was a Player. She boosted them all by keeping them in her party as she fought. Unless they were top delinquents or athletes before becoming omegas, the exp. gain would always put them at a disadvantage compared to their alpha competitors. Those were all the questions she had time for. She smiled wide to her camera man. "There you have it folks at home. Thank you for your time. Once again, congratulations to all the winners of the Burke Cup." she said happily. The king and queen the approached. "As promised, you may come to our residence here in Droyntown. You will be celebrated with a ball in your honor and then knighted." All the members were over the moon. The trophy would be on display in the mansion for a ball. It would be taken by their Breaca sports committee.
