"Um.. Have you noticed anything different?" I asked somewhat nervously. The sight of my brother turned much older female cousin really shocked and unnerved me but I realized the truth; no Zoe or me, plus a different family history for Linda would result in a different child Marie. I felt beyond sick. True, my life had been wrecked by taking this feminine turn, but least I hadn't been erased from existence...
"What are you talking about?" Marie said crossly Those few words were relieving, since it was definitely Mikey-like. Maybe my brother wasn't gone after all.. This girl continued to glare for a few seconds before she added, "Stupid airhead."
"Marie!" Linda scolded once more, but I tuned out. It was a relief to hear. since the reaction was like I remembered. It definitely was Mikey in that plump, bitchy girl, even if she couldn't remember anything. I smiled.
"Seriously, mom. She thinks it's funny.." Marie whined.
"Well, one night away from your boyfriend won't kill you" Linda snapped. My grin grew wider since i started to see Marie as my feminized brother again, and not a brand new person.
"Urrgh. I can't believe you're taking her side, mom. You're always doting on her, mom. Don't you realize how embarrassing she is? Now I have to watch her do ballet! Only like girls do ballet!"
My smile instantly fell from my face, and I barely heard Linda scold, "Dance". The idea of me doing something so feminine like ballet was nerve-wreaking, but Marie's 'little girl' comment was horrifying. The stone had sense of irony, and I was sure that between mom's desire to be 'youthful', and Marie commenting about me doing 'little girl things', I would end up in my pre-teen years for sure. I stared at my hands, then my body looking for any signs of change, but to my surprise, nothing happened.
"What are you looking at, ditz?" Marie taunted.
I didn't respond; I was still too freaked out to pay attention of Marie, or even Linda, who was oddly apologetic. Once we arrived at the studio, I grabbed Linda's bag, and stormed off. The first person, I bumped into was Sarah McMillan, the bitchy head cheerleader of Lake Point, and long time enemy. Especially to Karyn. She was the last person I expected to see, especially since she was dressed in a baby blue leotard and tights. She looked stunning, but it was still Sarah.
"Hey Anna" Sarah greeted in a friendly manner., and much to my surprise, hugged me. I was too stunned to see a friendly Sarah to hug back. The cheerleader broke her embrace and asked, "What's wrong?"
"My cousin.." I said.
"Oh.. her" Sarah said dismissively, like if she had experience with Marie in this reality I found myself in. "Come on. Want a hand?" Sarah asked as she half dragged me towards the changerooms.
"No. i've got this" i said, as I opened the bag and winced. Pink. It had to be pink. I turned around, and saw that Sarah had joined me in the changerooms. She had no issues with my presence. It was almost like she wanted to talk whilst I changed.
"So how is that bitch annoying you?' Sarah asked.
"Acting like she's ten, and saying ballet is for little girls" I answered.
Sarah laughed, which I found weird. I was not used to her acting friendly. "Love the irony"
"What?" I asked, wincing. My own leotard felt weird, plus I instantly felt embarrassed. Sarah still didn't seemed fazed.
"She is the one acting like a child. Plus, we're dancers."
