"Do you mind?" I snapped, as I wasn't used to having my breasts squished against another girls.
"What?" Karyn said, grinning madly. She knew.
"Knock it off"
"Its what us girls do to our friends, Annie"
"Don't you start that. Its bad enough that Katie does that."
"What's the matter? Afraid that you'll totally start acting like a complete airhead, like that ditz?" Karyn mocked.
"Yes! That is far worse than become the nerd girl, Karyn" I snapped as we exited the build and walked onto the field. One good thing was it meant Karyn had to shut up, though I could see I had made my point; Karyn was seething. Seeing that i may had overstepped, I quickly added, "I don't think that is going to be in either of our futures, Karyn."
"It better not" Karyn said coldly, but I could tell she was somewhat pacified.
"Least one good thing about this. I get to sit out and watch as you become a cheerleader. Ready to shake those pom poms?" I asked, the last bit loud enough for some other girls to hear. Of course Paige and Katie thought I had been cleared, and I even heard Katie whisper to Paige how 'Annie was feeling normal again', but they were quickly disappointed to discover my exclusion. I sat on the bench and watched, glad i wasn't out there embarrassing myself, since i was firstly completely unathletic as a guy, and couldn't see why I would be as a girl, and secondly, had no desire to flash my panties every minute as some flyer. thirdly, even I knew how dangerous that role was. While I trusted Karyn not to hurt me, least on purpose, she was just as experienced at cheerleading as I was at all this girl stuff. It turned out Karyn was quite good at it. Even Katie seemed impressed.
"I don't believe that" Katie said during lunch.
"Yeah.." I said somewhat distant. While talking about Karyn's newly found ability was better than what some of the things these ditzes would talk about, I didn't feel like talking at all. There were eight of us on the table, including Karyn, and all from the cheer class. She seemed very much out of place, like something barely tolerated. As if my insistence and her performance had won her a place that the cool table.
"What's wrong, Anna? You're not yourself..." Paige asked.
I remained silent, least until another one of girls, Emily said, "You three got a free study session for the rest of the afternoon, while the rest of us has home ec.."
"Yeah.." I said. A chance to do my homework sounded more appealing than cooking or childcare." I wasn't aware of either Katie or Paige who smiled and nodded.
"Good idea, Em" Paige said as she seized my now girlish, pink phone and started sending a message.
"Hey!" I protested.
"Calm down. Just getting permission" Paige said.
"For what?" I asked, confused.
"You are a ditz, Annie. Its the one good thing having your mom work here" Katie said as a reply came in, leading to a satisfied smile. "You aren't your normal self, so we're going to the mall"
My eyes went wide. Mom? Work? Mall trip? What was going on?
