Getting mentally prepared, I decided to start with Tev. A sword and shield would be easier to manage than a spear. I could go in, manage 25 kills, and get out. I let Qwill take mortal form as she could fight on her own. The real focus of this fight was to watch over my children as they tried to become holy weapons. With that in mind, I took a deep breath. "The goal is 25 kills for each of you. When you reach 25 kills, call out so we can escort you back to the river bank. Let's go." I said out loud. Everyone nodded. I led the way into the grass, Tev drawn. Everyone had their weapons out as well. It did not take long before the red oni started appearing. They were all hostile right away. We held our ground as they came over. Blocking with the shield in my right and either slashing or stabbing with my right was pretty easy. Qwill was a spear user like them, so she knew exactly what to do. When she ran ahead and began goring them on her weapon, it was no surprise to me. She was the first to get to 25 kills and called out to us. I had a good 19 with Tev. We all retreated together.
It was there that we could see her evolved for and appreciate it. She was stunning before and her mortal form did not change. Her spear changed shape and gained itself a red mini banner. It radiated power. I would not know all of her new stats until I wielded her again. That could wait for another time. We still had more red oni to kill. "I want you to stay here. You are done and I don't want you to get downed while the rest are fighting. Even worse, I do not want you to fall in the hands of the red oni." I told her. "I will wait here for your return, Lord David." she said as she bowed respectfully. I led the others back to the red oni. I only had 6 kills to go, so it was not too long before I had them retreat once again. Tev also looked stunning in his evolution. He now looked as if he was a man at arms, instead of a rank and file soldier. I asked how they were feeling and how many kills they had gotten. The questions were both important. Aaren, Anicia and Zayne had 17 kills, 14 kills and 20 kills respectively. That was more than 10 kills. 10 was their second milestone for Blade Spirits.
