I made sure to go around the battlefield to stabilize our wounded. Those with their guts hanging out could at least some magical help before our town doctors could get to them. All the had to do was grab the chain. If they were to weak to do that much themselves, I could wrap it around them. Using me, only 18 members of Henan's Heroes died. The fact that 58 of them were still wounded was ridiculous. If it was a fair battle, they would have all been slaughtered. Maybe taking in the first mercenary band that came was not so good. The valley had survived repelling them as simple villages for generation. It was probably because they were so weak from crossing over the mountains. Darrien got 8 kills. He was not concerned with helping out the mercenaries. Shank took 11 lives. Krit killed 10. Knat took out 9. Ace and Deuce both killed 7. It was a bloodbath. The other champions got 4 kills each. I counted it all out for my own records. That was 88 kills. Henan himself killed the centurion in a personal duel. He was fine. His 5 subordinates killed all the rest. The men were simply trash.
Men in the army still had to be trained up. Otherwise they were simply peasants with swords. Professional soldiers got training as they moved along in formation as a big army. If their country had a standing army, they were paid to train and be ready for deployment. If not, they were trained from recruitment or conscription until they were dismissed. After that, they were considered veterans and expected to train on their own if ever needed again for a new campaign. Winning such a battle would certainly toughen them up. However, they did not do much. The Blade Spirits did all the work. It was lucky for them that we all were considered the same under the banner of the town. The gained exp. for the battle would be shared evenly among the survivors. That meant it did not do anything for us. I made a point to go down to them with Shank after they got patched up. He was going to whip all the men into shape. As a short sword, he could help them the most too. The others were a bit too advanced for them to handle. We did not need an army of scythe or boomerang wielders now.
Now that they were on their feet several of them came to me. They were some of the men I saved in the battle. All of the were grateful to me. "What can we do to repay you, David!?" one asked. I smiled and said "I have a shrine in town. Toss a couple of lin in the offering box and give me a prayer of thanksgiving. That's all I need from my fellow townsfolk." Actually getting worshipped would be cool. I could be a local god of battle medics or something. A similar threat came for Ethana Town. We told the people that did not need to worry. They did need to train under the Osna warriors. I pushed that hard. After seeing what happened to Henan's Heroes, they all took it a bit more serious than the probably would have otherwise. Our 24 went out and wreaked havoc on the century. We killed them all. Krit and Knat were boomerangs. Deuce's big Morningstar was good at taking people out, but it was normally used for taking prisoners alive. I told my servants to kill steal from them all. That allowed them to get to a massive milestone of 25 kills. They did not notice it. It was a good thing.
