Jon sat next to Rebecca who he can now see has barely moved from the position she had been in when he had left her.
“What has happened?” He asks her.
“Not much Mr S’ has left the office to track down a lead on the case and has left the imposter, sorry your mom is in the office with Riley watching the office..” She told him.
“Thanks for the catch-up.” He replied. He wondered how Stone had managed to get out of the office without Riley noticing but decided not to ask. Instead, he turned his gaze to the screen and saw Stone entering a dimly lit building without his mom.
Damm, she was only on screen for a few minutes and he had missed most of them. He rationalised this by thinking that he was working on a way to get her back but it still annoyed him that his mom was nowhere to be seen once again. At least she was safe for now if a police detective was watching the building she was in, he thought.
Meanwhile in 50’s New York…
Jane had taken a break from the important work that she had been doing.
Why can’t I get away from office work even in a dream? She thought. Why couldn’t she have more things to do like she had earlier when she had distracted Detective Riley, she had enjoyed that.
"Not bad for an old dame," she said aloud with a mischievous grin spreading across her face.
"I could get used to doing that sort of thing," she murmured, twirling a strand of her newly styled hair. When she had finished getting ready that morning. She had made sure it was a perfect replica of Rebecca's signature look. It was a look very different from her usual, but it suited her current situation. She took out her compact from her purse to fix her lipstick, she wanted to make sure she still looked 100% the part of the glamours assistant to P. I Dan Stone
She found herself enjoying this "dream" of hers even more than she had been despite the filing. The thrill of playing Rebecca, of manipulating the gruff Detective Riley with a touch of feminine charm, was intoxicating. If only my normal life was more like this she thought as she finished reapplying the lipstick.
"This can be yours if you want.” A whisper said.
Jane turned around to see who had spoken but found that she was still on her own in the office.
“Who said that?” She asked not sure how she would get an answer from the empty room. Only to be greeted by a deafening silence.
