“Ah, welcome in, Jon!” Julia Minors, Lake Point High School’s Home Ec teacher, greeted the student as he entered the room alongside Miss Fine. “Now, as we spoke about yesterday,” Ms. Minors returned to address the class, “we are partnering with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America until the end of the year. Home Ec will be designed as each of you teaching the domestic skills you have learned to the 3rd grade girls of Montessori Morning Glory Elementary.”
Kyla Leeson raised a hand. “Why aren’t we working with the public school elementary students?”
“This is a part of the grant requirement,” Ms. Minors gave the brief response before continuing. “Part of what that means is that we have one student too many in this class for the number of 3rd graders attending Montessori. So that’s where Jon comes in.”
Karyn gave him a death glare as Ms. Minors gestured to Jon with a hand. Karyn’s expression almost said ‘it wasn’t a coincidence after all, was it???’
“Jon will be pairing up with whoever ends up not being assigned a Little Sister from the Montessori school. Whoever that might be.”
The mystery hung in the air for a few seconds.
“Just kidding, you all saw when we drew lots yesterday, it’s Sarah McMillan.”
Karyn’s death glare intensified.
