Jon looked confused. "Wait....isn't it kind of early for Sarah to be getting scholarships? I mean...I haven't even started looking at colleges."
His sister looked at him. "It's for a summer writing program. You get to stay in a college dorm, take writing classes...it's like a summer camp, right, Sarah?"
Sarah nodded.
"I mean..I'm so jealous...I'd love to spend a summer in New York," Renee said.
"Jon," his mother said, "it wouldn't hurt you to work a little harder in class...we put a little away for your college funds, but it is going to be tight to put all three of you through school without help or massive student loans."
"What is wrong with my grades?" Jon asked.
"Just a slightly higher GPA might help...that's all," she said.
Amber put a hand on Jon's arm. "Jon and I can study together," she offered. "I mean, I'm not a nerd or anything, but..."
"What's wrong with being a nerd?" Julie said. "I mean...look at how many nerds went off to be successful after high school."
Amber nodded. "You're right...I mean, some of the really nerdy kids at school are almost as bad as Sabrina in how they look at other people though. Like how dare you don't know the name of Captain Picard's fish..."
