My favorite paladin's name was Alicia Duskmaiden. "That's a lovely name." I said. She looked at me with a raised eyebrow. "Yes. Thank you, Wraxix." she replied dryly. I did not think that was a proper response to a very honest compliment. Either she did not like her name or she was thinking I was angling for something. I shrugged my shoulders. Nothing was going on at the moment. Just because I was an incubus did not mean I was flirting with her. I doubted I would get far with her. Good paladins and fiends did not mix. "What are you going to do about the demons operating in the warehouses?" I asked. She sighed. "Well, since we don't have your group helping, we need to be very cautious. Abbess Diana is certain we will need to call in the Adventurer's Guild." That would be the responsible thing. No need to get slaughtered over all this. Especially if you were not strong enough. Alicia had her fists balled up as she told me. I looked at her seriously. "Do you seriously believe you and the other paladins in here can take on that den of demons!?" I asked. She only bit her lower lip. Alicia did.

Bold characters were needed in a game like this. This was how the story of the game became so dynamic. NPCs would just go and do things. Succeed or fail, the fallout would cause more need for missions the Player could take on. "Have you spoken to Bryan or the other paladins about this? Maybe there are enough of you to at least do a small scouting mission." I offered. She only sighed. "The quartermaster agrees with me in this. Abbess Diana simply outranks him. She is a noble after all." I asked if she was part of the Adventurer's Guild. Creatures of all races and classes could join up with them. "I am. When this finally gets approved, I will sign up for it. But they are so slow at times." she complained. I was confused. "What could be more urgent than a demonic infestation?" I wondered out loud. She crossed her arms in annoyance. I let her emote as she liked. "Nothing. However, they never listen to the minor faiths. It came from us, so they will want to send a scout to confirm it themselves. Then, and only then, will they put a listing up. Who knows the rank!" she explained. It all took time.

To be fair, I would also want some confirmation before rallying a large force. Demons invading the Mortal Realm was a huge problem. One that normal mortals would not be equipped for. The Abyss was something that they all would have a lot of trouble dealing with. This would not be a mission for the newbies and weaklings. Since they needed big guns for this big mission, I hoped that Alicia was a decently ranked adventurer already. I was not going to ask. If she was not, it might upset her. "I hope that things work out for you." was all I could really say. The female paladin shrugged her shoulders. "It's in the hands of the Adventurer's Guild now. I trust Gutono will guide them to moving quickly on this. He might also provide me the opportunity to show him my skills as well." It was good to be positive about things. A couple of days passed before the Adventurer's Guild answered the letter sent to them by Abbess Diana. Like Alicia said, they wanted to send a party of adventurer's to scout their area first. That took 2 weeks to get them down here and finish scoping the places. It was everywhere.
