As soon as Kyla left the room, Zoe turned to Jon. "I thought you said your mom was missing."
He sighed. "Zoe..that isn't my mom..."
"Come again?"
"That's not my mom....it's someone else..."
"Jon...I know your mom...that's your mom. Or...do I only think I know your Mom...." Zoe frowned. "No chance this is an elaborate prank to drive me crazy, is it?"
Jon shook his head. "I...If only it was...." he was trying very hard not to accidentally use the term I wish, even when the stone wasn't around. "I'm glad you're here...and believe me?"
"I wanted not to, but I mean...first, you're a terrible liar....and second, you aren't that creative," Zoe said.
She wasn't wrong. He'd been lying to her, but only the omission type...and he couldn't have thought up a story like this.
"I wish I could help somehow...I mean...pretty much I'm oblivious here," Zoe said.
He wondered if he could fix that. He could use someone to help him. But...what would such a wish do? He needed to be very careful.
Kyla popped back into the room. "Zoe...would you like me to drop you off on the way to pick up Mikey?" She asked.
"Sure, Mrs. M," Zoe said, grabbing her bag. She looked over at Jon. "See you tomorrow, I guess..."
Jon sighed. He hoped so. He loved his sister...umm...friend...whatever. He hoped, if he couldn't fix this, that Karyn and his mom were all right wherever they were.
