"If I find out this had something to do with your little copycat act..." Sarah said.

"What copycat act?" Karyn asked.

"Letting your hair grow out so it looked llke mine."

"The last thing in the world I want is to look like you," Karyn said.

Karyn headed off to get as far away from Sarah as she could. The girl just made her so...mad. Sarah was a rich, shallow, entitled brat...and she had nerve to suggest Karyn would want to copy her. She headed to her next class.

"Okay, students....those of you who have their new IDs are supposed to scan them at new readers by the door. You'll do that for every class going forward. Those still waiting I will be checking you in manually. They say this will speed up attendance."

Karyn walked up to the newly installed wall scanners. "You are not scheduled for this class," the screen said. "You should be in Room 216."

"What is it?" Her teacher asked.

"This system is all messed up...first it got my information wrong when I got the ID, now it says that I'm not in this class."

"Well, it is a new system, dear...I'm sure they'll sort out the bugs quickly. But...if the system says you are supposed to be in another class..I think you'll need to go there until this is sorted out."

She shook her head. 216 was just a few doors down. She headed in there, grumbling, and scanned the card. The tablet took her picture with a flash, something she wasn't prepared for. "What is with this system?" Karyn grumbled. Admittedly, it wasn't any more advanced than self-service ordering at the local quick service restaurant, but it seemed like a gigantic leap forward for a school still using cards to track attendance. A few spots in her vision from not being ready for the flash, she slid into a seat.

"Hey, Karyn..." a perky voice said.

She turned and frowned. She had absolutely no idea who this girl was.

"I like your outfit," the girl said.

"Umm...thanks," she said, and turned away, wanting to avoid this weird conversation.

She reached into her bag for her notebook, even though this was the wrong class, and discovered several things were wrong.

Her bookbag was tiny and leather, and her fingernails had polish on them, which she usually didn't except for fancy events her parents forced her to go to. She gazed down, and found her jumper was gone, replaced by a sweater that showed off her magically enhanced assets. At least the shirt fits, she thought, thinking of some of the cheerleaders whose shirts barely went below their breasts. Jon...if you are responsible for this...you'd better stay sick... she thought.
