'What?" I messaged, but Zoe never replied. Instead, I was forced to face the rest of the day. Not getting caught using my phone in class was the only mercy I received. Lunch was filled with a long mind numbing girlish conversation with Paige, Katie and a few other girls that left me with a weekend mall trip that I somehow knew I wouldn't be able get out of, even if my life took another alteration. Worse, i was starting to become a willing participant on some of the subjects, especially when it came to ballet and clothes. Arrgh.... Art class turned into another case of the girls talking, and me feeling I was being molded into a girly girl even more. I even had cooking, which I found awkward since while I felt such skills were necessary, even before the stone wrecked my life, but I could see why the old Zoe absolutely hated it. Finally sport, which was still cheerleading. This time, there were no injuries and worse, I seemed to be much better at being a flyer. Zoe was waiting for me as both Paige and Katie said, and hugged their goodbyes.
"I like them. they suit you. Did they help during your cooking class? How was your apron?" Zoe said, smiling slightly as she lead me to the car.
"What?!"
"Secretary, remember. I know your schedule, and I know you need to be nice and neat..."
"Enough, mom. What is the whole thing about something I won't like. You're not going to force me to do some little girl crap, are you?" I snapped as
"Joanna! Language!"
"Really?" I demanded.
"Mom urges" Zoe said
"Right.." I growled before adding with faux sweetness. "What are we doing then, mommy?"
"You're getting babysat while I..."
"What!?! You can't be serious! Who?"
"I need to test an interaction with you"
"Who with? Karyn?" The thought of dealing with my former friend filled me with dread. We did not part on good terms, blaming the other for our predicaments.
"No. I nearly went with that option, because I was curious how she would see you, or me, but I felt the risk was too great. Instead phoned an old... 'friend' of yours."
"Who?"
"Sarah McMillan" Zoe said flatly.
I was stunned, a range of emotions filling me. Surprise that Sarah would actually have a job, let alone a babysitting one. Horror at the idea of Sarah seeing me like this and fear she would recognize me. Curiosity about how Zoe could even arrange this, especially without the stone. "How?" I asked in disbelief.
"Secretary of a rival school. I've always wondered why Sarah never went to St Mary considering her family. Under the guise of trying to get her to defect, I got her this job"
"Oh God no..." I moaned
