"Nick, you don't want to do this," Megan said to him.
"Why not?"
"You just got your life back."
"This isn't my life. I'm probably never going to get my job back and I'm losing you." He touched the Medallion. "If I change back into Nicki, I'll have a life already waiting for me."
"But it won't be real."
"It's been real to me for years, Megan. I've gotten used to it. And don't say you haven't either."
"So, you really want to be a girl?"
"No. I didn't say that. But ..."
"But what?" Megan asked.
"It'll be easier."
"Easier?"
"For you, for Katie. For everyone."
"What about your parents? Your family. Will it be easier for them?"
"You know that I haven't e-mailed them in at least a year."
"So that's it, huh? You finally get back to normal, then throw it all away."
"Hey, you're the one that said you'd feel better if I stayed as Nicki."
"Yeah. But this ..."
Nick touched Megan's shoulder. "It'll be okay. This is the right thing to do." He looked down at the Medallion, picked it up, and put it around his neck.
