Jon awoke to the sounds of frantic chaos. He could hear his mother Linda butting heads with Zoe in the hallway again. He climbed out of bed and stood next to the door to hear what they were arguing about this time.
“For gods sake Zoe, I asked you to pack last night!” He heard her groan in frustration, “do you want to miss our flight?” She added.
“Urgh, just get off my back already!” Zoe snapped back, “I don’t even want to go on this trip with you!”
“I don’t care Zoe!” Linda replied angrily, “it’ll be a good chance for us to bond, and best of all, it’s completely free! Now get your things ready, we leave in 20 minutes.” She added before Jon heard her shuffle off to her room. Jon opened the door and peered out. Zoe was still stood there arms folded. She saw him staring at her.
“What?” She snapped.
“Nothing, just wanted to see what all the fuss is about” Jon replied with a shrug.
“You know damn well what it’s about” Zoe sighed, “this stupid trip Mom won. All expenses paid trip to some new hotel resort in Greece. Fuck knows why she wants to take me and not Dad” she grumbled.
“You serious Zoe?” Jon replied in amazement, “why would you not want to go?”
“Because it’s a week stuck in a hotel with Mom!” Zoe replied, “what 16 year old girl would ever want that? She refuses to change her mind so I’m going, but if she thinks I’m going to spend any time with her, she’s dead wrong!” She added as she stomped off to her room. Jon couldn’t help but smile, a whole week without Zoe bringing the mood down with her grumpy goth routine… he couldn’t wait!
True to her word, twenty minutes later Linda was ushering Zoe and her hastily packed case out to the car where Jon’s dad Roger was waiting to drive them to the airport. Zoe sat in the back and sneered at Jon as they pulled out of the driveway, then stuffed her headphones in her ears the rest of the way.
It wasn’t long before they had arrived at the airport and waved goodbye to Roger. They checked in and headed through to the departures lounge. Another hour later and they were on the plane ready to take off. Zoe was even more irritated now she couldn’t listen to her music until the aircraft was fully airborne.
“Have you read the leaflet I gave you about the hotel?” Linda asked her.
“No” Zoe rolled her eyes, “lemme guess, nice pool, nice view, nice restaurant?” She added.
“All those and more” Linda smiled, ignoring the sarcasm, “Hotel Eris is part of a five star resort, and we’re staying in the luxury penthouse, and have full run of all the services the hotel has to offer, no charge” she added excitedly.
“Great,” Zoe mumbled, actually having to hide the excitement she was starting to feel. Deep down she knew her mother was just trying to get closer to her again, and maybe she could find a way to enjoy this trip. If only they knew what was waiting for them there.
