Just as Jess was enjoying the moment, studying Karyn’s slightly older face, someone came to their table and Karyn quickly took her hands off Jess’s.
Jennifer sits with them and suddenly they’re the center of attention of the small restaurant.
“Hey, babe.” Says Jennifer before kissing Karyn on the lips. Jess, in disbelief, can see Karyn blushing slightly.
“Jen, I’ve told you I get uncomfortable if we kiss in public. Everyone’s looking at us” says Karyn.
“Sorry, but I can’t help myself” replies Jennifer. “What are you guys talking about.”
“Jess was just telling me how she feels about graduating and leaving the town behind to go to college. She can tell you about it while I go to the bathroom.”
Once she was out of hearing, Jess angrily faced Jennifer.
“What the fuck, Je… Jennifer? Are you dating Karyn? What’s wrong with you?”
“What do you mean? I didn’t mean for it to happen, but it happened. After your disappearance 2 years ago, and before I made a wish to fix it, Karyn was so devastated we started getting closer. One thing lead to the other, and here we are. I guess me being a boy before had something to do with it, you wouldn’t understand.”
“What do you mean I wouldn’t understand? I’m the one who used to be John, you were John for 5 minutes before turning yourself into Jennifer. I love Karyn, I’ve always loved her, and now she feels so far away.” Said Jess bursting into tears.
“Ah, I remember now, it was 2 years ago for me, don’t forget about that. The wish that started all of this, I’m supposed to live your previous life and you mine. Huh, I guess John was supposed to date Karyn, that would explain why we’re together. Me living that life means I have to date her, regardless of me being John or Jennifer. This magic stone never stops surprising me” says Jen with a chuckle.
Just as Jess is going to say something, Karyn comes back, sits next to Jennifer, and holds her hand.
“Oh, Jess. You don’t have to be sad. Jen will visit us often, and we’ll have each other close by, best friends forever!”
