“I guess we’re going to the usual spot at the food garden?” Jess asked.
“You’re funny. We haven’t been there in years. I still remember that time Tiffany tried to bully you there, I can’t believe you did what you did. Nah, let’s go to our usual place, down main.”
“Ok, but can you setup the gps to avoid traffic?” Jess was glad her quick thinking was making a come back at last.
“Done! Let’s go!” Said Karyn while also playing some music and dancing to the tune.
The restaurant was new, Jess had never seen it in her life. A small place, serving simple Italian food and pizzas. Nothing fancy, but it had a cozy feeling and the food smelled great.
They were greeted by an old looking man, his apron stained with sauce and oil.
“Jess, Karyn! So nice to see you. Sarah is not coming along today?” Asked Gino, whose name shone on his name tag. Jess opened her eyes at the comment, but said nothing.
“No, she’s out of town visiting colleges” replied Karyn.
“Ah, I will miss my favorite customers. Promise me you will visit again in the future.”
“Sure thing Gino, how could we not!”
“I’ll bring you the usuals then.” Gino said and left.
Jess felt like giving up. She felt like she would be lost forever, trapped living a life that wasn’t hers, but had also mixed elements from her old one.
Karyn stretched out a hand and put it over one of Jess.
“What’s up, Jess? You look worried.”
