Joy ran out to Jake's mother's car and climbed in the backseat.
"Don't you want to ride up front?" Jake's mother asked as she got in the car.
Joy had forgotten that Jake was allowed to ride in the front seat. When she was still herself she had never been allowed to. "Okay." Joy said getting out of the car and racing around to the other door.
Once they were both buckled in they were off to the babysitter's to pick up Abby, Jake's baby sister.
Before long, they arrived at Jake's house and all three of them went inside, Jake's mother carrying Abby.
Joy went straight up to Jake's bedroom. He wasn't surprised to find Mark there since he and Jake shared the bedroom. Mark was 16 and wasn't really happy to have to share a bedroom with his little brother, but since Abby was born there hadn't really been much choice. There were only so many rooms in the house and besides he would be out of there and off to college in only two more years.
"Hey shrimp." Mark greeted the person that he thought was his younger brother. "Have fun at your girlfriend's house?"
'Girlfriend?' Joy thought. "Yeah, it was exciting." Joy finally said.
"Exciting how? Did you kiss her?" Mark asked
"Ew. No." Joy responded.
"Whatever, you know I'm just kidding you man." Mark said laughing.
"Hey Mark?" Joy said pulling the medallion and the note out of her pocket. "Can you read this for me? I think this necklace is magic, but I can't read the note that was with it."
"Seriously little man? You still believe in magic? You're too old for that BS." Mark said.
Joy wasn't sure what 'BS' meant, but she was pretty sure it wasn't a good thing. "Please?" she said holding the note out to him. "You don't have to believe it, just read it to me."
