Holli had finished her packing after almost three hours. She was sure that she hadn’t brought that much with her when she had left her parents' place in Busanjin District. She had enjoyed seeing the Haedong Yonggung Temple again. She hadn’t managed to visit her parents or the temple in such in long time. She loved spending time with her parents she had missed them so much but the sacrifice was worth it wasn’t at last that was what she told herself.
Wait something was wrong Holli thought. She had never been to Busanjin District let alone the Haedong Yonggung Temple. She had last seen her mother before she had left for Korea. That had only been a few weeks ago. Her father had passed away a few years ago. She wished that was not true but she had just about come to terms with the fact, no matter how much she wished it wasn’t. She seemed to have two sets of memories when it came to her parents. One of them was from Brighton and the other was from Busanjin District. She knew that one of them was the right one but which one was it. She was not sure at that moment.
What was happening?
She knew that Val’s little trick was to help people see that she was a member of the group and give her the memories she needed to make sure that no one got suspicious. That shouldn’t effect her past, should it? She needed to check this quickly but she knew there was no way of contacting Val before they met up later so how could she do it she wondered? Then she hit on an idea. She had access to Val’s Social media so all she needed to do was to look there, especially at the posts from before Holli had met Peace Blossom. If she had not met the group there would be no reason for things to have changed.
She opened up what had been Val’s Instagram page only to find that it was now her own. She scrolled down the posts She stopped on a posted called Airplane Selfies.
The image is a selfie taken by a young woman in what seems to be the restroom of an airplane. The woman is the central focus, occupying most of the frame. She has shoulder-length, light blonde hair styled in two long pigtails. She wears rectangular, wire-rimmed glasses and a dark gray, oversized knit sweater with long sleeves. Her makeup is subtle, and her expression is neutral, almost serene. She wears a simple silver band on the ring finger of her left hand.
She was holding a smartphone in her right hand, and taking the selfie. The phone case is dark and reflective, showing a slight distortion of the woman's reflection. The subject looked calm and quiet. Her expression and posture convey a sense of composure and perhaps a touch of introspection.
This was the first of three similar pictures which were followed by a short video clip of the same young woman moving around the restroom of the airplane.
It was the video that shocked Holli the most, she could just about deal with the three still images of what appeared to be herself in that restroom. However, when she saw the person who had the same face that she had seen in her hotel bedroom mirror that morning moving around that restroom she was not sure what to think.
“아니, 그럴 리가 없어. 뭔가 실수가 있었을 거야.” (No, that can't be right. There must have been some mistake) Holli exclaimed when she saw the date on the post. It was from around six months ago. A long time before Holli had even left the UK, she was sure of it. That seemed right although now she wasn’t all that sure. She needed to talk to Val but she wouldn’t be able to do that for a few more hours.
