Zoe changed out of her soccer uniform and back into her regular clothes. As she exited the locker room, Coach Barry flagged her down. "Good work out there, Meadows..." she said.
"Thanks, Coach," Zoe said. "Have you seen my brother hanging around? Or did he forget he said he'd give me a lift again?"
"Sorry...I haven't," she said.
Zoe growled under her breath, but then centered herself. Competitive sports helped with that a bit for her. Biff was always getting distracted with something. She texted him. "You still at school? Ride...remember?"
A few seconds later, she got a response. "Hanging out with the guys outside. Don't get your panties in a bunch."
She rolled her eyes and texted back. "At least my team won the last three games we played." The football team had lost the same number before the spring break.
"Do you want a ride or not?" Biff texted back.
She headed toward the parking lot and found him with his football player friends. She knew them all fairly well.
"Hey, Zoe," Steve Farber said. "Looking good..."
"Wish I could say the same, Steve," Zoe said. "And the answer is no...again. Do you think you are going to wear me down or something?"
"I wasn't going to ask you out again."
"You weren't? You've been doing it since I got to high school last year. You aren't my type."
"And who is your type exactly?"
"Anyone else," Zoe said.
"Seriously? So if I picked anyone in this school, you'd go out with them?"
"Okay...anyone completely unlike you," Zoe said.
Steve thought about that. He usually wasn't annoyed when people turned him down, but with Zoe, it annoyed him doubly. "How about a wager then? I'll pick someone out completely unlike me...and you have to go out with them. If you can't last the entire night...next time you go out with me."
"None of your sleazy friends..." Zoe said.
"I promise, perfect gentleman."
"Then...if I get through the night...that's what you have to be...for an entire week...with every girl. No hitting on them...and if anyone asks you out...you have to go out with them...and do whatever activity they want...and I'll be picking who does the asking." Zoe grinned. "I'm thinking that girl who is always playing those card games...you'd love to learn how to play one of them, right?"
Steve scowled, wondering how much he was willing to risk just to torment Zoe. There was just something about her. "Fine. I'll go dig up someone willing to go out with you."
Biff looked at Steve. "You know if you hurt my sister, where I'll put my fist."
Zoe scowled at her brother. "You won't get a chance, because my fist will already have been there. I'm not a little kid, bro."
