Jon looked her in the eye, incredulously, and the world suddenly exploded...he could taste colors, and see smells, and....then suddenly it was over. "What was that?"
"Not sure, Mom..." Linda said. She grinned. "I called you Mom...I guess that means I'm back....I mean...I haven't seen Karyn in like...two weeks. Well, I've seen her, but not as me...She's been thinking of me as her friend's mom...I mean..."
"You are saying you think you are supposed to be like this," Jon said, rubbing his head.
"You mean...you forgot?" Linda looked suddenly concerned. "I guess it was a long two weeks, but...it will come back to you, right?"
"I'm not quite sure what will," Jon said.
"Well, you're my mom...if that wasn't obvious. You were always complaining I wasn't more helpful, and you wished I could understand what it was like to be a single mom like you," Linda said. "The next morning...boom...I was the mom. But...nothing else was the same. I mean...it's like I was a mom, but it wasn't your life...it was mine, you know?"?
"I don't think I do," Jon said. "Can you spell it out for me please?"
"I mean...different jobs...different choices...they felt like my choices...I guess..." Linda said. "And everyone connected to you and I seemed different as a result."
Jon was about 95% sure that Linda was the one whose memories were wrong, not his. But...5% wondered if she was right. And without a stone, until he found it, he had no chance of fixing it one way or the other. "That's very interesting," he said.
"I guess I'd better get to school," Linda said. "Jeeze...I even missed school..." She laughed.
"What am I supposed to do exactly while you go off to school?" Jon asked
"I don't know...assuming things are back totally...I'm guessing work," Linda said. "Gotta go..." She grabbed a bookbag.
"Daniel, you come back here..." Jon said, then paused. Daniel?
