When they got down to the kitchen, they found Karyn already sitting at the table and Laura drinking a cup of coffee. She pointed to a cup of tea. "Wasn't sure what you wanted," she said.
"What about breakfast?" Jon asked.
"I was waiting for you. Wasn't sure what everyone wanted..."
"Waffles!!" Karyn chirped.
"Sounds good to me," Laura said, ruffling Karyn's hair. "If we have waffle mix," she said.
Jon sighed and went to get the waffle maker from the top cabinet shelf, before realizing he couldn't reach out. He made a slightly frustrated noise under his breath.
"I'll get it for you," Laura said, grabbing it with ease and bringing it down to the counter.
Jon turned to Mikey. "If you could set the table," he said.
"Whatever," Mikey said, going to grab plates.
Jon took the box of waffle mix, added water, mixed it, and left it as the box instructed for a few minutes while the waffle iron heated up. He gestured for Laura to join him as he worked.
"What is it?" Laura asked.
He got the piece of paper out of his pocket that Mikey had written all over and showed them to Laura. "He was able to answer these questions as well as someone in high school..." Jon said. "I mean...he isn't our baby anymore...he's....a teenager."
Laura put a hand on Jon's shoulder. "It is probably better that way...I mean....would you rather he had that body and the maturity level he had before? I mean...at least this way he has a chance at a normal life."
"I suppose...I told him we'd do something together all morning..."
"That's a good idea. He's been having trouble since this all started."
"Maybe you should take Joe," Jon suggested. "I mean....she's suddenly dating her former best friend...maybe you need to have..." Jon grinned, "Your first man to man talk with her."
"I don't think I have much experience in that area," Laura said. "But I suppose it's worth a shot. We weren't getting along the best before all this. Wait...what did you call her?"
"Zoe?" Jon said.
"I could have sworn..." Laura scratched her face, which definitely looked like it could use a bit more of a shave. "Never mind..." He gave Jon a peck on the cheek, absent mindedly. "I'll go find her and make the offer."
Jon continued with the waffles as Mikey returned having set the table. "Don't forget the syrup, butter, and the drinks," he said.
"I'm getting them," Mikey said. "Where's everyone?"
"Your mother went to fetch them," Jon said. "Probably down in the basement, I'd imagine."
